To USA: Good job in knocking out Portugal and surviving. 


Team USA does stand a good chance against Belgium in my opinion. They have trained hard and long. It is time for the US Men to share the same level of success as their Women's counterparts. I believe USA can win and qualify for quarterfinals. 
 
In preparation for the game tomorrow, here are 11 trivia about the stars and stripes that you probably didnt know about: 
 
 
1.The USA’s best finish at a World Cup was semis in 1930.
 
2. The only American to ever record a hat trick at the World Cup was Bert Patenaude. This happened in the 1930 World Cup against Paraguay .
 
3. The biggest loss for the USA came in 1934 when it lost to Italy 7-1.
 
4. In World Cup 1950, USA caused a big upset that is still remembered even today by beating England 1-0.
 
5. The USA's best goals-scored-average was in 1950 and 1990 at 2.7 goals.
 
6. The United States first hosted the World Cup in 1994, becoming the second CONCACAF nation, after Mexico, to host.
 
7. USA qualified for the 1990 World Cup, after 40 years of absence.
 
8. The United States has qualified for every World Cup finals since 1990.
 
9. Klinnsman effect - US coach for World Cup 2014, Jurgen Klinsmann, played in the German team that won the World Cup in 1990 and previously coached his native Germany to a semifinals finish in World Cup 2006 .
 
10. Landon Donovan is USA's golden boot with 5 goals in 12 games over three World Cup tournaments.
 
11. USA was previously eliminated by Ghana in 2006 and 2010, both by the scoreline of 2-1. In World Cup 2014, USA emerged victorious 2-1 in the group stage.

This match also created a couple more accolades. Clint Dempsey became became the first American player to score in three World Cups and also scored the fastest goal (30secs) by an American player. John Brooks became the first American substitute ever to score in a World Cup.
