When did World Cup Begin? How many World Cups are there?

The first World Cup started from 1930 in Uruguay. This goes way back and till now 19 World Cups have been conducted. You are most probably familiar that the World Cup is held every 4 years, but the numbers do not seem to add up. Indeed, 2 World Cups were cancelled in 1942 and 1946 due to the second world war.

World Cup 2014 is the 20th edition. The previous World cups were equally dominated by countries from Europe (won 10 times) and South America (won 9 times). This year, will Brazil capitalize on home ground advantage and level that score? Or would we finally see another continent taking the trophy for the first time?
