Today is Singapore's 49th birthday.

Looking back at this year, we had our fair share of unsettling events. Amidst our quick-to-complain culture, we often neglect some of the beautiful stories in our society.

I started this research pretty early since last national day, in a bid to create some good karma, and there's no better way than to spread all this positive stories I've collected for National Day! Happy Birthday Singapore, and be happy fellow Singaporeans!

2. The local heroes amidst danger

Hero #1
Remember the little india riot that caught everyone in surprise on a peaceful Sunday night? Do you also remember a wonderful samaritan in checkered shirt saved the bus helper lady from being beaten to death during the riot?

Hero #2
Imagine running towards a burning car to pull out a couple of people. This man did it.
Less than 3 minutes after the rescue, the car was engulfed in flames. Truly a hero.
