If you started working, and you start to meet more people, chances are you will receive a number of namecards with some letters behind the name.
What are these letters?
They are known as post-nominal letters. They indicate the qualifications attained by the individual.The ones you might be familar are Ph.D, which does not mean Permanent head damage, but rather Doctor of Philosophy. Similarly, MBA stands for Master of Business Administration.
Some examples of post-nominal letters in medicine
Just so happened that I met 2 clients from the realm of medicine. One of them is a very senior lecturer whom post-nominal letters look unfamiliar to me. I did some research and here's a compilation of letters more commonly seen in Singapore and what they stand for.
