What are those letters after a name in a namecard

Letters after a name

If you started working, and you start to meet more people, chances are you will receive a number of namecards with some letters behind the name.

What are these letters?

They are known as post-nominal letters. They indicate the qualifications attained by the individual.
The ones you might be familar are Ph.D, which does not mean Permanent head damage, but rather Doctor of Philosophy. Similarly, MBA stands for Master of Business Administration.

Some examples of post-nominal letters in medicine

Just so happened that I met 2 clients from the realm of medicine. One of them is a very senior lecturer whom post-nominal letters look unfamiliar to me. I did some research and here's a compilation of letters more commonly seen in Singapore and what they stand for.

Name
Post-nominal
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery
MBBS
Masters of Medicine
MMED
Doctor of Medicine
MD
Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
FRACP
Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore
FAMS
Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians
FRCP

It seems like there are a lot of medical organizations out there, so we can see doctors with letters starting with F, signifying that they are a fellow of the organization. This list is non-exhaustive.

Some examples of post-nominal letters in finance

And in a realm I am more familiar with. Again, the list is non-exhaustive
